A Passionate Teacher and Dedicated Writer
Nathan Branson September 20, 1983 - June 15, 2024 Carteret Writers was saddened to learn of the passing of Carteret Writers member and Carteret Community College English Professor, Nate Branson. Nate was a passionate teacher of English and Creative Writing. His enthusiasm for introducing creative writing and its transformative powers to his students is evident in the tributes posted by his former students. He will be sorely missed. Ekphrastic Writing Contest winners inspired by 2024 Art From the Heart exhibition
We would like to share the top three poems our talented members wrote for our second annual Ekphrastic Writing Contest in February. The Arts Council of Carteret County’s Art From the Heart show offered a collection of artworks in different forms, and our members wrote poems inspired by many of the sculptures, paintings, and textile art on display. Carteret Writer Joyce Allan was our contest winner with her poem “A Seashell Sandwich,” which was inspired by artist Susan Smith's Sea Cairn.
